PM: Top Leaders Must Hold Only Khmer Citizenship

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has underlined that the Cambodian top leaders must hold only Khmer nationality. “In order to show loyalty to the nation and avoid foreign interference, the national leaders who serve the post as President of the Senate, President of the National Assembly, Prime Minister, and President of the Constitutional Council must have only Khmer citizenship,” he underlined on his official Facebook page this morning.

The Premier said he had assigned H.E. Koeut Rith, Minister of Justice, to study and prepare the draft law on the amendment to the Constitution or the draft law on organisations suggested by the Royal Government or a proposed law from the Senate and the National Assembly.

“If you play, do not be angry, if you are angry, do not play. The door is closed forever for those with dual citizenship who are trying to hold these top positions, especially that of Prime Minister, because the amendment to the constitution or the law on organisations requires a two-thirds majority to be able to pass,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen added.
