PM Reminds His Compatriots of Forthcoming National Election

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has reminded his compatriots of the National Election in July this year.

The election of members of the National Assembly is approaching, it's only over two months away, said the Premier on his official Facebook page this morning.

Until May 16, 2018, he pointed out, five political parties, including the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Cambodian Youth Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Khmer National United Party, and FUNCINPEC Party have been officially recognised by the National Election Committee (NEC) to compete in July 29 general election.

Meanwhile, NEC has been examining the application forms of other political parties, he added.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also made a comparison over the election turnout rate in Europe, the U.S. and Cambodia. According to the Prime Minister, only around 30 percent and 40 percent of the eligible voters went to the polls in Europe and the U.S., respectively while the turnout rate in Cambodia was recorded at more than 69 percent.

This reflects clearly the progress of true democracy in our country, which is different from the interpretation of some ill-will people, he underlined.

It is certain that no leader around the world advises his/her people not to go to vote, but only those ill-will people who intend to destroy the democracy and the people's will can do it, he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also thanked his compatriots who have put their trust in his leadership and who will continue to vote for CPP to give him chance to further lead the country toward peace and long-term development.

Cambodia will organise the sixth parliamentary elections on July 29, 2018, and NEC has already announced the period for the political campaign that will fall from July 7 to 27.
