Constructed since May 2011 by the engineering unit of the Ministry of National Defence at a total cost of US$13 million, the 779-metre-long, 9.2-metre-wide, and 23-24-metre-high bridge links Roka Krom village in Sangkat Sambour Meas, Kampong Cham city to Koh Chas village in Koh Mith commune of Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province.
Some 20,000 households living on three islands Koh Pen, Koh Mith, and Koh Trom will benefit directly from this newly-built bridge.
Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pride of this new infrastructure achievement.
At the inauguration ceremony of a four-kilometre portion of National Road No. 1, from Monivong Bridge (Kbal Thnal) to Sangkat Veal Sbov in Khan Chbar Ampov in Phnom Penh yesterday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on all stakeholders to save the national budget in order to build bridges costing between US$15 and US$20 million.
Our ancestors can build Angkor Wat, therefore we, as their younger generations, must have the capacity to build bridges by ourselves, the Premier underlined.
