One commune, at least one lower secondary school; one district, many high schools; and one province, one public university, is the new policy to boost education in rural areas .
The new policy was raised by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen while presiding over the graduation of 3,349 students of the Royal University of Law and Economics held here at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning.
According to the Premier, the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Thbong Khmum and Kratie have already had each a public university. More universities will be built in other provinces so that students do not have to come to Phnom Penh to continue their studies, he added.
Education and human resource training remain a top priority of Cambodia. Up to now, the country has 116 higher education institutions, 486 high schools, 1,240 lower secondary schools and 7,144 primary schools.
