PM Calls for Restriction on Doctoral Degrees

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has appealed to all higher education institutions to restrict conferment of doctoral degree.

While presiding over the inauguration ceremony of Indra Devi Building at the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC) and the commemoration of the RAC's 20th founding anniversary here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said conferment of doctorate degree must be restricted, otherwise Cambodia would have the most doctoral degree holders in the world if compared to the population.

The Premier expressed his concern over an excessive number of doctoral degree holders in the country, of them 108 have already completed their doctorate degrees at RAC while 546 others will receive their doctoral degrees from the academy soon.

The quality of doctoral degree programmes as well as the thesis defence process are also part of the Prime Minister's concern.

Furthermore, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also announced the suspension of granting honorary titles requested by the RAC.
