PARENTS SHOULD NOT HIDE THEIR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN’S STATUS – RYTHM FOUNDATION CHAIRMAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Parents with special needs children should not hide the status of their children from the public because it could affect their development in the future.

Raise Yourself to Help Mankind (Rythm) Foundation chairman Datin Seri Umayal Eswaran said parents should let their children mix with society to increase the public’s awareness about special needs children.

“The very first thing as parents and the community, we can not ignore them, we have to accept their existence.

“Once we do, then we can proceed with what needs to be done like spreading awareness to the public.

“What we want to see is the children to go in real life and live normally. So for the parents with special needs children they can send them to Taarana School because we can assist them,” she said to the media during Taarana School’s Annual Day, here today.

Taarana School, established in 2011 under the Rythm Foundation, provides assistance and resources for children with special educational needs.

The school seeks to unlock children’s potential and help them discover their strengths as well as prepare them to be independent and lead fulfilling lives.

Meanwhile, Amin Mohd Shariffudin, father of Muhammad Kamil Muiz. one the students at Taarana School, said his son developed social and basic skills since he attended the school.

“I can tell my son before joining Taarana there was a behaviour problem. After entering he learned to be more disciplined.

"His social skills also improved. He learned how to make friends, is more considerate and can listen to instructions better," he said.
