MetLife HK Raises Interest Rates on Dividend and Coupon Accumulation for USD Policies

HONG KONG, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — MetLife Hong Kong announced an increase in interest rates to 4.5% per annum on all participating MetLife Hong Kong dividend accumulation and guaranteed cash coupon policies denominated in US dollars with immediate effect.

The decision to raise rates on these policies by approximately up to 75 basis points — different rate structures exist across different policies — reflects the actual experience of our investment return.

MetLife Limited and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Hong Kong Limited (collectively “MetLife Hong Kong”), the wholly-owned subsidiary of MetLife, Inc., the largest life insurance company in the United States*, is the first insurer(1) in Hong Kong to make this move in 2014, one that will mean better returns for its policyholders.

“At MetLife Hong Kong, we keep a close eye on market trends and try to stay one step ahead. We’re also a customer-centric company. The decision to raise rates on these policies will improve returns and reflects our ongoing effort to provide the most competitive and attractive products,” said Lennard Yong, Chief Executive Officer at MetLife Hong Kong.

The new rate of 4.5% is one of the highest(1)  for participating US dollar dividend and coupon accumulation policies among the major insurance market players in Hong Kong.

For all participating policies issued by MetLife Hong Kong, dividends and/or cash coupons paid to policyholders can be left with MetLife Hong Kong to accumulate with interest at a rate based on market conditions and investment performance. The interest rates offered are usually more competitive than a time deposit savings rate available from banks.

Cryoport and DHL Partner to Provide Cryogenic Logistics Solutions for Life Sciences and Healthcare Clients

LAKE FOREST, Calif., July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Cryoport, Inc. (OTC BB: CYRX) (“the Company”), the leading provider of advanced cryogenic logistics solutions, partners with LifeConEx, a part of DHL Global Forwarding, to enhance and supplement DHL’s cold chain logistics offerings including DHL Express’ Medical Express to its life sciences and healthcare customers with Cryoport’s comprehensive cryogenic logistics solutions.

With these new services, DHL is now offering advanced cryogenic logistics solutions as well as the best-in-class solution for shipping temperature-sensitive products and biological materials in a cryogenic state to its life sciences and healthcare customers.

DHL Global Forwarding currently has 45 Certified Life Sciences stations around the world and they have stated that they will end the year with 65 integrated stations.  These forwarding stations as well as dedicated life sciences warehouses and clinical trial depots will now be able to rely on Cryoport for cryogenic shipping.  Cryoport believes this is an important element of DHL’s strategy to increase their business in temperature-controlled shipping.  As DHL’s research has reported, the worldwide shipping volume in the cold chain tripled from $56 billion in 2004 to $167 billion in 2013.  As life sciences products become more complex the need for Cryoport’s solutions becomes more strategic.

Integral parts of this new service include the Cryoport Express® Shippers that use a dry vapor liquid nitrogen technology, providing 10 days of holding time at minus 150 degrees C, under dynamic shipping conditions combined with temperature monitoring throughout the shipping process. Cryoport’s solutions offer a superior, more reliable alternative to dry ice, which needs to be re-iced every few days creating conditions for temperature excursions. This is of particular importance for the shipments of fragile biomaterials.  In addition, Cryoport solutions are also more economical and less hazardous than liquid nitrogen.

“As the life sciences industry continues to transform and evolve to meet growing demands for reliable frozen shipping solutions, we are thrilled to be combining forces with Cryoport,” stated David Y. Bang, CEO of LifeConEx. “We are especially impressed with Cryoport’s ability to maintain and monitor customers’ highly sensitive biologic materials in a temperature-controlled, cryogenic environment, throughout the entire shipment process. Our uniquely combined solution alleviates the concerns of damaged or lost materials, given the access to its temperature monitoring system, which records the chain of condition throughout each shipment.”

Jerrell Shelton, Chief Executive Officer of Cryoport, stated, “This partnership with DHL is an important step in furthering our reach into the life sciences total addressable market. Our solutions were very well received at 14th annual DHL Life Sciences & Healthcare Global Conference in Shanghai, China, where our solution and its benefits were presented to DHL’s life sciences and healthcare attendees. As a pioneer for logistics solutions and a leader in cold chain solutions for life sciences, DHL stands at the forefront of delivering advanced temperature-controlled solutions to every segment of the ever-growing life sciences community. We are proud to support the DHL strategy in life sciences as they move forward and advance their offerings on a global basis.”

About Cryoport, Inc.

Cryoport’s total turnkey logistics solutions offer reliability, cost effectiveness, and convenience, while the use of recyclable and reusable components provides a “green” and environmentally friendly solution. CPhI Worldwide, organised by UBM Live, has announced its full line up of confirmed expert industry panel members for 2014, building on the huge success of the CPhI annual report launched at CPhI Worldwide in October 2013.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130723/629764-a)

This year’s panel sees the return of ten thought leaders with the addition of three new members, covering the entire pharmaceutical supply chain from R&D through to finished products, regulatory requirements and economic implications. Additionally, this year panel members are utilising their market insights and analysis year round in the CPhI Pharma Insights series, which cover individual topics and developments across the industry – including the released R&D, manufacturing and Turkey reports, with a United States report due out imminently.

The new panel members are all from the contract manufacturing arena, with heavyweights Alan Armonstrong (CEO) and Douglas Cookson (VP corporate marketing) from Almac. Hendrik Baumann, the current CEO of Arevipharma, leverages his expertise within the German market and across API manufacturing. Lukas Utiger – president of Fine Chemicals and Integrated Offering at DSM – will lend his insights in the commercialization of pharmaceuticals. Collectively they provide a global overview of outsourcing with Almac and Arevipharma focusing on the international market from a European stance and DSM from a US perspective.

The returning members feature expertise across API and manufacturing efficiencies (Girish Malhotra) to quality systems and supply chain activities (Sam Venugopal), with insights also provided from some of the sectors biggest names and innovators, like Piramal’s Vijay Shah. Across supply chain issues, the panel will leverage the knowledge of Hedley Rees, whilst Prabir Basu, formerly of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education (NIPTE), will focus on the industry’s approach to innovation.

Regulatory expert, predominantly focussed on the Indian market, Dilip Shah also returns covering the intellectual property rules around innovation. Brian Carlin, who chairs IPEC Americas Excipient Qbd Committee, is also returning. He serves as the director of Open innovation at FMC and received the IPEC One World Regulatory Excellence Award in 2014. The winner of several FDA Commissioner Awards, Dr. Ali Afnan is another well-respected industry influencer and was a key contributor to the drafting and finalising of the current FDA Process Validation Guidance.

Emil Ciurczak, previously a member of the FDA’s PAT committee and president of Doramaxx Consulting draws upon his expertise across PAT, QbD and spectroscopy. Finally, William Botha, a respected trainer and mentor in manufacturing is also retuning to the panel; he is fluent in FDA regulations, including GDP and GMP.

Last year’s report examined major issues and developments across the industry including regulatory challenges from a globalised industry, cost savings through QbD and PAT, to the effect breakthrough drugs like ADCs will have on overcoming future disease pathologies.

The 2013 report was hugely successful with our experts providing insights into how the industry will adapt in the near future. This year we have been able to see the progress the industry has made along with the new challenges and threats ahead. Our experts will examine future potential breakthrough drugs, regulatory risks and supply chain issues. This year we also have representation from leading global CDMO players, Patheon, Almac and Arevipharma– adding a further depth of perspectives and providing a completely holistic picture of the global pharma landscape.” commented Chris Kilbee, Group Director Pharma at CPhI.

The 2014 annual report features a collection of in depth essays from each panel member – with experts again given carte blanche to prophesize how the industry will look and operate in the future from both an economic and practical perspective.

Kilbee added, “I am very pleased that we have been able to include in our panel many of the major figures in the industry, as they provide hundreds of years of experience both individually and collectively. The panels ability to provide a realistic approach to problem solving, coupled with an international outlook is essential in advancing market dynamics.”
