As of December 2019, a total of 5,564 associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have deposited relevant documents and have been registered at the Ministry of Interior.
The figure was shared here this morning by Acting Prime Minister Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng while presiding over the 4th Forum on Partnership between Government-Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Of the total number, 2,248 are associations and the rest, 3,116 are NGOs, added Samdech Sar Kheng, stressing that 38 associations and NGOs were erased from the list last year at their own request.
Anyway, he continued, the number of associations and NGOs did not decrease and about 20 of them have been registered at the Ministry of Interior a month on average.
Samdech Sar Kheng spoke highly of the contribution of CSOs in the national development and the Royal Government's reform programme, especially in enhancing good governance, human rights, judicial system, education, health, natural resources and environment.
The acting prime minister also noted that they have conducted their activities at localities without restraint with the collaboration from local authorities.
