New Solar Power Plants of 495 MW Online in 2023

Seven solar power plants of 495 megawatts will be online in 2023 pushing up the supply of such source to represent 20 percent of the total installed power capacity.

The update was shared by H.E. Ith Praing, Permanent Secretary of States at the Ministry of Mines and Energy in a virtual meeting on Singapore-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) High-Level Forum last week.

The country’s electricity supply is dominated by renewable energy, especially hydro power plants, accounting for 88 percent of the total supply, followed by solar currently represents 9 percent, he said.

He continued that to meet the demand of power consumption, Cambodia executes some coal power plants and imports some.

The key objectives in Cambodia's latest power development plan 2020-2040 include accessibility, reliability, affordability, and security and contribute to addressing climate change.

Cambodia's solar power plants in operation are located in Bavet city of Svay Reing province, Kampong Speu province, and Kampong Chhnang province.
