National Election Committee (NEC) has decided to terminate the nomination of 88 candidates for the June's Commune/Sangkat Council Election due to their invalidity.
Circulated lately, the NEC's decision signed by its president H.E. Sik Bunhok was assessed to have no significant impacts on the seven relevant parties joining the local election.
The 88 candidates terminated, according to Head of NEC's Legal Department Mr. Keo Phalla, are the reserves and those in the last rows of the nomination list, so the termination should not cause major effect on the parties' nomination for the race.
As specified by the NEC's decision, among the total number of discarded candidates, 63 are under legitimate nomination age of 25 years old until the Election Day on June 4, four have been nominated by more than one party, and 24 have either resigned or passed away.
Cambodia is undergoing its 14-day campaign for the fourth local election running until June 2 partaken by twelve political parties for 1,646 communes and Sangkat throughout the country.
Roughly 7.8 million of Cambodians have registered for the voting.
