The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won a landslide victory in the 6th National Election yesterday, according to the National Election Committee (NEC)'s preliminary results released this afternoon.
The preliminary results show that CPP got in total 4.87 million votes or 76.78 percent; while the royalist FUNCINPEC Party received 373,526 votes or 5.88 percent ; the League for Democracy Party, 308,292 or 4.86 percent; Khmer Will Party, 212,409 votes or 3.35 percent; Khmer National United Party, 99,320 votes or 1.56 percent, Grassroots Democratic Party, 70,291 votes or 1.11 percent.
There are some 6.94 million votes in the ballot box or 82.89 percent of the total 8.38 million eligible voters, of which 6.34 million votes are valid and 596,775 are invalid.
NEC will release the temporary results of the July 29 general elections on Aug. 11, 2018, and in case there is no complaint against the temporary results, the official ones including the number of votes and seats that each political party obtained as well as names of elected candidates will be announced on Aug. 15.
