NEC Issues Press Pass for 284 Journalists

The National Election Committee (NEC) has issued press pass for 284 journalists from 35 media organisations to cover the upcoming general elections, as of May 23.

Among them, 51 are foreign journalists from 15 media organisations, according to NEC's news release yesterday.

Besides, it added, NEC has been checking the application forms of 192 local journalists and 4 foreign journalists.

NEC will continue to accept the application forms until July 19 for local journalists and July 26 for the international ones.

For the registration of election observers, it began since April 23 and will last until July 18 and July 25 for the local and foreign ones, respectively. NEC has so far recognised 2,178 observers and have been checking the application forms of more than 1,500 others.

According to NEC, 8,380,217 eligible voters will go to the polls on July 29, 2018 in 22,967 polling stations throughout the country with the participation of 20 political parties.

Those political parties include the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Cambodian Youth Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Khmer National United Party, the royalist FUNCINPEC Party, Khmer United Party, Grassroots Democracy Party, New Light Party, Beehive Social Democratic Party, League for Democracy Party, Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, Thama Thippatay Party, Democratic Republic Party, Our Motherland Party, Khmer Rise Party, Khmer Economic Development Party, Khmer Will Party, Khmer Republican Party, Rasmei Khemra Party, and Cambodia Indigenous Peoples Democracy Party.

NEC has already announced the period for the political campaign that will fall from July 7 to 27.

In the previous national election on July 28, 2013, eight political parties took part in the election � CPP, the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party, FUNCINPEC Party, League for Democracy Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Democratic Republic Party, Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, and Khmer Economic Development Party.
