During the first three months of this year, there were in total 989 cases of road accidents, killing 492 people and injured 1,468 others.
Of the figures, road accidents claimed 185 lives in January, 140 in February and 167 in March, and injured 574, 418 and 476 people respectively, according to a report of the General Commissariat of National Police.
For the same period of 2016, 495 people lost their lives and 1,681 others were injured due to traffic accidents.
Last year, 1,717 people were reported dead and 6,607 others injured on the road, while in 2015, the number of people killed and injured were 2,265 and 7,510, respectively.
The common causes of traffic accidents are excessive speeding, driving, traffic law violations, as well as weather conditions and vehicle's technical problems.
