NBC Marks the Riel Day

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) celebrated here this morning the Riel Day to commemorate the 38th Anniversary of the re-circulation of Riel.

The celebration was held at the Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Centre (CKCC) in Phnom Penh under the presidency of H.E. Ms. Ouk Maly, NBC Deputy Governor.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Ms. Ouk Maly said macroeconomic stability is the strong base and precondition for the widely use of Riel. She also called for more active contribution from concerned ministries and institutions, the private sector and the general public to the enhancement of the Riel usage.

Mr. Som Ratana, Vice Rector of the Royal University of Phnom Penh expressed his appreciation to this event and encouraged all relevant parties to take part in further promoting the use of Riel.

Riel is the national currency of Cambodia. Different banknotes � 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 � are in circulation.

According to the NBC's official exchange rate today, 3,985 Riel equals to 1 U.S. dollar.
