Natural Incidents Destructed 7,000 Houses in First Five Months

Natural disaster destructed about 7,000 houses and buildings for the first five months of 2019 � suggesting an increase by three folds compared to the same period last year.

The update was shared by H.E. Keo Vy, advisor to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) recently to the local media.

From Jan. to May 2019, said the advisor, there were 186 cases of gusts which severely destroyed 856 houses, and damaged 6,102 other houses and 72 schools and other buildings � killing 2 people and injured 51 others.

Lightning during the same period claimed 46 lives and caused severe and minor injuries to other 44, added H.E. Keo Vy.

Basing on the committee's record, the number of affected houses in the first five months of 2019 rose by three times, while cases of gust incidents increased by two folds compared to last year.

In May alone, there were 87 cases of gusts destroying 390 houses and damaging 23 buildings leading to 1 death and 30 injuries, while lightning killed 31 people.
