AKP Phnom Penh,Royal Government of Cambodia has established a jail for minor prisoners to separate them from adult inmates.
The update was shared by Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation H.E. H.E. Vong Sauth during his meeting with Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Cambodia, here in Phnom Penh yesterday.
H.E. Vong Sauth continued that there are some 1,400 child prisoners, and separating them from adult inmates is crucial for their rehabilitation.
Located in Kandal province, the construction of the prison for minors will be finished and put into use in 2019, he added.
From her side, Ms. Pauline Tamesis expressed her appreciation of the ministry's move with the prison construction and demonstrated her commitment to support its work.
