Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation will establish commune/Sangkat level associations to support the elderly across Cambodia, according to local media report.
The source cited the ministry's Under Secretary of State H.E. Mom Bunthan saying that, as planned, at least 1,242 associations of the said kind will be formed to attach to the 1,646 communes/Sangkat in the 25 capital and provinces.
Figure from 2016 showed that Cambodia has over one million elderly population or senior citizens with the age of more than 60.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has introduced mechanisms to support the said group of population, in particular those vulnerable.
The rollout of the plan to establish the associations to support the elderly will take place this year.
