Ministry of Labor: Number of Strikes and Protests in Garment Sector Down

More than 500 cases of strikes and demonstrations in garment and footwear factories were recorded in 2015, down about 40 percent compared with the figure in the previous year, said a report of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training released yesterday.

There were about 336 cases of strikes and 192 cases of protests last year, it pointed out, adding that hundreds of cases of conflicts between the factories and workers have been settled.

Currently, there are 1,087 garment, textile and footwear factories in Cambodia with over 700,000 workers, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. The sector exported products with a total value of US$6.2 billion in 2014.
