Ministry of Environment supports an intention of a conservation association to establish elephant breeding centre.
Environment minister H.E. Say Samal expressed the support when receiving a delegation of AIRAVATA Khmer Elephant Foundation led by its founder Ms. Chenda Clais at the ministry here in Phnom Penh yesterday.
The existence of the elephant breeding centre will play a vital role in not only conserving elephants, but also increasing the number of the wild animal in Cambodia, said H.E. Say Samal.
He added that ministry of environment will look into possibility to provide moral and technical support to enable AIRAVATA Khmer Elephant Foundation to run the breeding centre.
The minister also encouraged the foundation to initiate public awareness building activities especially among children and at schools so as to build positive understanding about elephant as well as other vulnerable wild animals among them.
Ms. Chenda Clais thanked H.E Say Samal for the support and will look into the suggestions he made.
Started four years ago, AIRAVATA Khmer Elephant Foundation is located about two kilometres to the South of Ratanakiri's Banlung city, and four elephants are being well taken care of.
