A man in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles, US, has been cooked to death alongside thousands of tuna in an industrial oven.
Jose Melena, 62, was carrying out maintenance in the 35ft-long oven when a co-worker filled the cooker with tuna and turned it on – believing Jose had taken a break.
An announcement was made on the intercom when supervisors realised he was missing.
His body was found two hours later in the pressure cooker, which reached a temperature of 270 degrees.
Two managers, Angel Rodriguez, 63, and Saul Florez, 42, at Bumble Bee Foods have been charged with violating safety regulations and could face up to three years in prison.
Bumble Bee Foods said in a statement that they remain devastated by the loss of their colleague Jose Melena.
‘We disagree with and are disappointed by the charges filed by the Los Angeles district attorney’s office.’
