Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has recently issued a policy on the imports of pigs and children in order to manage their quality and pricing, according to local media report.
The ministry's Spokesperson H.E. Sen Sovann was quoting as saying that with the new policy, only licensed companies are allowed to import the animals from other countries.
In so doing, he added, competent government departments will be able to monitor better the import quality and pricing of the animal meats in the market, avoiding groundless price setting that suffers buyers.
In the policy, the MAFF allows the import of 1,250 pigs and 3,000 chicken to Cambodia per day.
On an average, based on the same source, Cambodia needs imports of about 40 percent of the animal to meet current domestic demand.
