The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed here this morning the participation of the leaders of three Lower Mekong countries in the 3rd Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit to be held on April 5, 2018 in Siem Reap province.
At the invitation of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, H.E Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, and H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, will lead their respective delegations to attend the 3rd MRC Summit, it said, adding that high representatives of MRC Dialogue Partners, China and Myanmar, and of MRC Development Partners will also attend the summit.
According to the same source, this upcoming summit will be held under the theme Enhancing the Joint Efforts and Partnerships towards the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Mekong River Basin-One Mekong, One Spirit and chaired by Samdech Techo Prime Minister.
It will review the significant progress and achievements of the MRC made on the promotion of regional cooperation, discuss the emerging challenges in the Mekong River Basin, and set the future strategic direction for promoting and enhancing joint efforts, cooperation and partnership to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the Mekong River Basin.
This Summit is expected to adopt the Siem Reap Declaration which will reflect the high-level political commitment of the MRC Member Countries on better furtherance of the regional cooperation for sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin.
At the conclusion of the Summit, Samdech Techo Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia will hold a Press Conference on the outcomes of the 3rd MRC Summit.
On the sidelines of the 3rd MRC Summit, Samdech Techo Prime Minister will have separate bilateral meetings with his Lao, Thai and Vietnamese counterparts and receive courtesy calls on by H.E. Mr. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, ASEAN's new Secretary-General, as well as by other Heads of Delegation.
