Kayah Clashes: Cambodia Calls for End of Violence

Cambodia, the Chair of ASEAN for 2022, has appealed to all parties concerned in the clashes in Kayah State of Myanmar to end all acts of violence and to begin a dialogue.
“The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expresses serious concerns over the intense clashes in the capital of Kayah State between the military and other armed forces. This continued violence is jeopardising the progress that has been achieved during the recent working visit by Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of Cambodia,” read a statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued tonight.
“Samdech Techo HUN SEN has shared during that visit the success of Cambodia’s Win-Win Policy in achieving national reconciliation, lasting peace, stability, development and prosperity. He stressed that, based on the experiences and lessons learned from Cambodia’s peace process, a complete peace and national reconciliation cannot be achieved without the full participation and agreement from all parties involved,” it added.
“In this spirit, we are of the view that all parties concerned shall accept the ceasefire, end all acts of violence, exercise utmost restraint and start a dialogue in order to establish favourable conditions leading to the reestablishment of peace in the country, which can pave the way for carrying out the ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus,” the statement underlined.
