Kampong Chhnang province is expecting a solar power park, following a recent approval of US$7.64 million loan by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Cambodia.
According to ADB's Climate Change Specialist Mr. Pardeep Tharakan, the planned 100-megawatt solar power park that generates reliable, sustainable and inexpensive energy will contribute importantly to Cambodia's economic growth.
The power source, he added, will also diversify the Kingdom's energy supplies and contribute to the government's commitment in the reduction of greenhouse gas emission encouraged by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC) is leading the bidding process to identify the constructor for the solar power park project, including its support facilities and infrastructure.
In terms of renewable energy development, the Royal Government of Cambodia has also received US$3 million grant aid and US$11 million loan from the Strategic Climate Fund.
