Japanese Film Festival 2022 to Kick Off This Friday

The “Japanese Film Festival 2022” will be held on Jan. 14, 15, 16, 22 and 23 in Phnom Penh (Major Cineplex by Smart, Aeon Sen Sok City).

The opening of the film festival is scheduled for Jan. 14 from 16:00 onward at Hall 3, Major Cineplex of AEON MALL Sen Sok City, Phnom Penh, with the film “Poupelle of Chimney Town”, in the presence of Minister of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Mikami Masahiro, and Director of Japan Foundation Asia Centre Phnom Penh Liaison Office Mr. Isogaya Hiroyuki.

During the festival, organised by the Japan Foundation, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC), Japanese films selected from a wide range of different categories will be screened at the above-mentioned major theater, said the embassy’s press release, adding that the selection includes drama, mystery, animation, action and comedy.

These films portray various aspects of Japanese life, society and culture and will provide a good opportunity for audience to familiarise themselves with Japan and its people, it pointed out.

According to the press release, the 10 Japanese films will be screened with Khmer and English Subtitles (Khmer dubbed for some animations). Screening schedule is published on the Japanese Film Festival’s

The Festival has been held every year since 2015 to promote cultural exchange between Japan and Cambodia.
