AKP Phnom Penh, The Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi shared here yesterday his message to the Cambodians on the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
It is my greatest pleasure to be sending this message to the Cambodian people on the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. On 23rd December, His Majesty Emperor Akihito will turn 84 years old. I am pleased to be able to inform you all that Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, are both in good health and are active in performing their official duties, H.E. Ambassador said in his message.
According to H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi, this year witnessed further progress in the relationship between Japan and Cambodia in various aspects. One of the highlights was the Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen's visit to Japan in August. In the summit meeting, Prime Minister Abe and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen celebrated 25th anniversary of Japan's UN Peace Keeping Operations Act, the origin of Japan's initiative of proactive contribution to peace, which actually started here in Cambodia. Both leaders also welcomed overall progress of our strategic partnership and committed to further strengthen the cooperation in bilateral, regional, and international issue.
Furthermore, I am pleased to see remarkably growing number of Cambodian people visiting Japan after the launch of regular direct flights by ANA between Tokyo and Phnom Penh, which rose by almost 50% in 2017 compared with the same period in 2016, he added.
The Japanese diplomat assured that this momentum will be ceaselessly continued in the year 2018, which will mark 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between both countries. In the coming January, Japan will establish the Consular Office in Siem Reap, which he believe will be a catalyst for more tourists from Japan and enhance our people to people exchange. Also, Japan will continue to support Cambodia's efforts in its development based on the new development cooperation policy on Cambodia formulated this year.
On this, the Emperor's birthday, and as we approach the New Year, his wishes are for further friendship between Japan and Cambodia and for good health and happiness of the people of Cambodia.
