Japan will help Cambodia achieve her vision of becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030, affirmed visiting Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Taro Kono in a meeting here this morning at the Peace Palace with Cambodian Premier Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
In this sense, he added, Japan will assist Cambodia in the areas of logistics, human resource development, electricity distribution system in Phnom Penh as well as peacekeeping operations under the UN umbrella.
H.E. Taro Kono also told Samdech Techo Hun Sen of his father who was a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan and who has contributed to the peace seeking process and development of Cambodia.
In reply, the Cambodian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their assistance to the reconstruction and development of Cambodia, mainly in the fields of infrastructure, port, clean water, flood protection and emergency rescue and so on.
He also voiced his support to the Mekong-Japan Summit, to be hosted by Japan this year, which is very important for regional connectivity in line with the ASEAN integration.
Cambodia and Japan mark this year the 65th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties. The two countries upgraded their relations to the level of strategic partnership in 2013.
