Japan Extends More Financial Support for Development of Cambodia

The Government of Japan has decided to provide more Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Cambodia to support its development programme.

The Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussions on the 9,716-million-Yen ODA between the Government of Japan and the Royal Government of Cambodia was signed here this morning under the witness of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn represented the Royal Government of Cambodia and visiting H.E. Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Government of Japan to sign the documents.

Of the total amount, the Grant Aid of 500 million Yen (nearly US$5 million) will be used for the implementation of the Economic and Social Development Programme in Cambodia, and the Concessional Loan of 9,216 million Yen (over US$86 million) for the implementation of Phnom Penh City Transmission and Distribution System Expansion Project (Phase 2).

The signing ceremony took place following the meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting H.E. Taro Kono at the Peace Palace.
