Cambodian people from all walks of life posted and shared their respective ink-stained fingers on social media after dropping their ballot papers in the box this morning.
Beside the display of ink-stained fingers, some voters showed their photos while checking their names on the voter lists or in a queue awaiting their turn to cast their ballots.
According to the National Election Committee's news release, from 7:00 am until 11:00 am, about 58.80 percent or 4.92 million voters of the total 8.38 million eligible voters have cast their votes in the 22,967 polling stations in the 25 provinces and capital.
Twenty (20) political parties competed in this 6th National Election for the 125 National Assembly seats, up 3 seats compared to the previous election.
Banteay Meanchey provincial constituency has 6 seats, while Battambang 8 seats, Kampong Cham 10 seats, Kampong Chhnang 4 seats, Kampong Speu 6 seats, Kampong Thom 6 seats, Kampot 6 seats, Kandal 11 seats, Koh Kong 1 seat, Kratie 3 seats, Mondulkiri 1 seat, Phnom Penh capital 12 seats, Preah Vihear 1 seat, Prey Veng 11 seats, Pursat 4 seats, Rattanakiri 1 seat, Siem Reap 6 seats, Preah Sihanouk 3 seats, Stung Treng 1 seat, Svay Rieng 5 seats, Takeo 8 seats, Kep 1 seat, Pailin 1 seat, Oddar Meanchey 1 seat, and Thbong Khmum 8 seats.
Cambodia has already organised the National Election 6 times � the first time in 1993 by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), then in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, and now in 2018 by NEC.
The first National Election took place in 21 provinces/a capital for the 120 seats of the National Assembly with 20 political parties by 4.26 million voters or 89.56 percent of the total 4.76 million eligible voters. The royalist FUNCINPEC Party won 58 seats, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) 51 seats, Buddhist Liberal Democratic Party 10 seats, and Molinaka and Naktaorsou Khmer for Freedom Party 1 seat.
The second National Election was held in 23 provinces/a capital for the 122 seats of the National Assembly by 39 political parties with 5.05 million voters or 93.74 percent of the 5.3 million eligible voters. This was the first National Election run by the National Election Committee of Cambodia. CPP won 64 seats, FUNCINPEC Party 43 seats, and Sam Rainsy Party 15 seats.
The third National Election was organised in 24 provinces/a capital for the 123 seats of the National Assembly with 23 political parties by 5.27 million voters or 83.22 percent of the 6.34 million eligible voters. CPP won 73 seats, FUNCINPEC Party 26 seats, and Sam Rainsy Party 24 seats.
The fourth National Election was held in 24 provinces/a capital for the 123 seats of the National Assembly with the participation of only 11 political parties by 6.11 million voters or 75.21 percent of the 8.12 million eligible voters. CPP won 90 seats, Sam Rainsy Party 26 seats, Human Rights Party 3 seats, Norodom Ranariddh Party 2 seats, and FUNCINPEC 2 seats.
The fifth National Election took place in 24 provinces/a capital for the 123 seats at the National Assembly with 8 political parties by 6.73 million voters or 69.61 percent of the 9.67 million eligible voters. CPP won 68 seats and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) got 55 seats.
