Minister of Defence of the Republic of India H.E. Ms. Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman has been on thee-day visit in Cambodia, from June 10 to 12, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh.
This morning, H.E. Ms. Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman held a bilateral talk with Samdech Tea Banh, following the official welcome ceremony.
According to the Ministry of National Defence's news release, during the meeting, the Cambodian Defence minister spoke highly of the visit of his Indian counterpart, saying that it will further tighten the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries, especially in the military sector.
Samdech Tea Banh also recalled India's contribution to the peace-seeking process and progress in Cambodia.
The Cambodian defence minister requested the Ministry of Defence of India to provide high-tech mine clearance equipment and training courses for Cambodian military officers either in Cambodia or in India. He further expressed Cambodia's warm welcome to the visit of more Indian navy's vessels in Cambodia to exchange experience between the two countries' naval forces.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the long-lasting relations between Cambodia and India and welcomed more Cambodian military officers to get trained in India on peacekeeping skill. She suggested specialised working groups of both ministries to work together for the successful and fruitful training courses for Cambodian military officers.
