IMF Appreciates Cambodia’s Climate Change Management

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appreciated Cambodia’s effective response and management of national disaster and climate change impacts.

The appreciation was expressed by Mr. Fabien Gonguet, IMF Economist during a meeting with H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment here in Phnom Penh on June 14.

H.E. Say Samal underlined that the achievements to certain extent were resulted by complete peace and political stability which have allowed Cambodia to attain noticeable economic growth, improving people’s living condition leading to better awareness on environment and climate change.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Environment are working hard in mitigating national disaster, addressing climate change impacts, including solid waste management, continued the minister.

He emphasised that impacts of flood and drought required the joint private and public response.

The ministry has also been cooperating with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and other players to study the impacts of climate change, especially on economy and physical infrastructures.
