Cambodia and China have announced to conduct Golden Dragon 2020 � the joint military exercise between the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) � as scheduled even though China has been being affected by COVID-19.
The announcement was made by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian at the handover ceremony of protective equipment for COVID-19 donated by the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence to the Chinese counterpart, held at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh this morning.
No planned project with China was canceled or postponed, underlined the Cambodian defence minister, adding that the cooperation between the two countries will be stronger and more active.
For his part, H.E. Wang Wentian echoed the insights, stressing that Golden Dragon 2020 will be held as planned this March and it will reflect the deep friendship between both countries' armies.
Golden Dragon 2020 will be organised at the Techo Sen Chumkiri live-fire field located in Trapaing Veng village, Trapaing Raing commune, Chumkiri district, Kampot province from Mar. 14 to April 1, 2020 under the theme Together against terrorism and for humanitarian operations.
According to Gen. Pen Sokrethvithyea, head of the task force responsible for leading the Golden Dragon 2020 exercise, about 3,000 soldiers, including 265 Chinese, will participate in this joint military exercise with different types of weapons and military equipment such as armored vehicles, tanks, artillery, mortar guns, helicopters, etc.
Golden Dragon military exercise, which began in 2016, aims to exchange experience and enhance the capacity of the RCAF and PLA in humanitarian operations, disaster rescue and counter-terrorism in the UN framework in accordance with the cooperation between the two countries' Ministries of National Defence.
