Each Flood-stricken Farmer Family to Receive 100kg of Rice Seed

The Royal Government of Cambodia has announced to distribute to each flood-hit farmer family 100 kilogramme of rice seed, and six types of subsidiary crops to other affected families that do not do the rice cultivation.

The announcement was made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, while visiting and giving relief to flood victims in Banteay Meanchey province this morning.

The Royal Government has decided to purchase more 2,000 tonnes of rice seed to distribute to farmers once the floodwaters recede.

As of yesterday evening, the ongoing flash floods have affected 20 of the country’s 25 provinces and capital. Some 263,933 hectares of rice fields and 88,779 hectares of subsidiary crops have been inundated and damaged.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen ordered local authorities to assess the amount of damaged rice fields and subsidiary crop fields before the seed distribution will be made.

H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, said yesterday that the ministry was planning to allot seeds to farmers in three provinces – Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Pursat – starting from next week.
