The weekly Cabinet Meeting, held here this morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, approved the draft National Policy on Ageing 2017-2030.
According to a press release of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Office of the Council of Ministers issued this afternoon, the draft policy focuses on means and possibilities to solve issues of the elderly population arising from demographic changes.
The draft policy identifies nine priorities related to the elderly people, including financial security, health and well-being, lifestyle, favorable environment, active ageing and associations of elderly people, inter-generation relations, abuse, indifference and violence, emergency situation, and ageing readiness.
Figure from 2016 showed that Cambodia has over one million elderly population or senior citizens with the age of more than 60.
Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation is planning to establish this year at least 1,242 commune/Sangkat level associations to support the elderly across the country.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Meeting also endorsed the draft law on amendment to Articles 6, 41, 42, 43 and 95 of the Fisheries Law promulgated by a royal decree dated May 21, 2006.
