"Tree planting is the obligation of each of us," underlined Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, while presiding over a tree-planting ceremony at Phnom Kulen National Park, last Saturday.
The tree planting at Phnom Kulen reflects the strong support from local authorities and community, he added, encouraging the latter to take part in law implementation and enforcement for sustainable natural resource management in the community.
At the same time, he called on the public to participate in planting trees in natural protected areas so as to contribute to minimising the impacts of climate change in the region and the world, and local communities to create ecotourism areas to increase households' income and enhance community development.
Some 17,179 young trees were planted on the occasion at the national park located in Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province. H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment and H.E. Tea Seiha, Siem Reap Provincial Governor, accompanied Samdech Tea Banh at the ceremony, along with local authorities at all levels and people.
