DPM Prak Sokhonn Lauds Cambodia-RoK Cooperation

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have seen enhanced bilateral ties and friendship, leading to greater cooperation in advancing their mutual development agenda.

The remarks were made by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at the reception on the celebration of the National Foundation Day of RoK and the 25th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and RoK, held here on Sept. 29 evening.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn said that over the past 25 years, Cambodia and RoK have had a close cooperation and it is getting better and stronger by day.

With the Covid-19 raging throughout the world in the last two years, he continued, the countries have managed to maintain high-level relations between both legislative and executive branches, including Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen’s visit to Seoul in September 2021 and Senate President Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum’s visit in February and April this year.

At the operational level, the two countries have had a wide range of delegation visits covering a broad spectrum of economic sectors, which have delivered tangible benefits for the countries in key areas of education, public health, agro-industry, infrastructure, the securities market, and civil aviation, he added.

“As we mark this commemorative year, I am confident that our friendly relations will further lead to greater cooperation in advancing our mutual development agenda,” H.E. Prak Sokhonn said.

The RoK is one of Cambodia’s key economic partners and ranks second in FDI in Cambodia.

The Cambodian top diplomat also spoke highly of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement and Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, recently ratified by the Korean National Assembly, which will give a big impetus to bilateral trade in the post pandemic era.
