A delegation of donor countries and agencies paid a monitoring field visit to two cleared minefields in Banteay Meanchey province on Mar. 1.
The delegation, led by H.E. Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), comprised Ms. Yeakyung Ji, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, Ms. Alissar Chaker, UNDP Representative in Cambodia, and Mr. Ryan Tierney, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy to Cambodia.
According to a press release of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the purpose of this field monitoring visit was to understand the contribution of mine clearance to the safety and livelihood of the community living in mine affected areas and visit clearance operations to facilitate donor representatives’ observation of the field activities (mine clearance) funded by the CfRIV (Clearing for Results-Phase 4) project.
The delegations visited two cleared minefields and met with the beneficiaries in Svay Chek commune, Svay Chek district and Khvav commune, O' Chrov district of Banteay Meanchey province, it added.
"When the landmine is not removed, I risk to plant rice in this field but after landmines are removed, I am really happy. I am no longer worried about dangers caused by mines while cultivating the land. I am so grateful," said Mrs. Sou Sae, a farmer in Khvav Leu village, Svay Chek commune.
