Deep Port Terminal Construction to Start Next Year

The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has called for bids for the construction of a deep-water port whose construction is set to begin in 2022.

H.E. Lou Kimchhun, Director General of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, said early this week that the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port has planned to build the first phase of deep-water port in 2022 and the completion is set for 2025.

The first phase of the construction, which is 350 metres long and 14.5 metre deep, will be funded by a US$200 million concessional loan from the Government of Japan.

According to H.E. Lou Kimchhun, the second and third phases are scheduled to complete in 2028 and 2030, respectively.

The upgrading port facility and capacity is to reply to the increasing cargo passing through the port, he said.
