Customers’ Deposits Increase to US$41.5 Billion As of August 2022

Customers’ deposits in commercial banks and microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia reached US$41.5 billion as of August this year, from 14.3 million accounts, the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC)’s report showed on Monday.

Of the total deposit accounts, 11.7 million are at the commercial banks and 2.6 million others at the MFIs, the report read.

The banking and financial institution has continued to strengthen its core operations, including loans, deposits and payment services, and to modernise these services through the provision of digital banking services, said H.E. Rath Sovannorak, Assistant Governor and Director General of NBC’s Banking Supervision.

Digital banking service provision is made through application for loans online and mobile, interbank payments and e-wallet account use, he said during the celebration of ASEAN SAVINGS DAY: ‘Little Saving is Better than Not’, held in Siem Reap province on Oct. 31.

Cambodia currently has 58 commercial banks, nine specialised banks, and 86 microfinance institutions, with a total of 2,614 headquarters and branches as well as 4.219 automated teller machines (ATMs) throughout the country, the NBC said.
