This year, the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) is planning to provide interest-free loan to 326 poor farmer families after the success of this financial service in the previous years.
This interest-free loan service will be operated in Veal Veng district of Pursat province, Samlot district of Battambang province, Sala Krao district and Pailin city of Pailin province, Malay and O' Chrov districts of Banteay Meanchey province, Samrong city of Oddar Meanchey province, and Choam Ksan and Rovieng districts of Preah Vihear province, H.E. Ms. Men Neary Sopheak, First Deputy Secretary General of CRC, told AKP yesterday.
Each family will get from 800,000 Riel (about US$200) to 1 million Riel (some US$250) to start their business such as growing crops, raising animals, running grocery store or motorcycle repair shop, and so on, she added.
The CRC first deputy secretary general underlined that the financial support contributes not only to increasing people's income, but also to reducing migration for work.
CRC's interest-free loan service began in 2005 and up to now, some 7,000 families have benefited from it. In 2017 alone, 298 poor families had access to this humanitarian financial assistance.
