Council for Cambodian Tourism Promotion Suggests Some Key Points to Promote Tourism Industry

The Council for Cambodian Tourism Promotion and Marketing Study will present some key points to the Royal Government in a bid to attract more tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism's news release.

Based on the council's meeting held here earlier this week under the presidency of H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, those key points will be submitted to the Royal Government in order to set a strategy to attract more tourists to the Kingdom, especially to the potential tourist attractions.

Visa exemption for some foreign citizens, tourism marketing on international arena, preparation for ASEAN Tourism Forum in 2021 and other major tourism events such as Cambodia Travel Mart (CTM 2019), flight connection from Preah Sihanouk coastal province to Siem Reap cultural province for foreign tourist arrivals by cruise ship, flight expansion to and from India, creation of new tourism products, and strengthening of quality of souvenirs sold to tourists are among the key points.

In the first quarter of this year, some 1.87 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia, up 9.7 percent compared to the same period in the previous year, according to official statistics of the Ministry of Tourism.

The top five markets for Cambodian tourism are China with a total of 683,436 visitors, up 35.1 percent; Vietnam with 186,869 visitors, up 0.1 percent; Laos with 121,489 visitors, up 6.5 percent; Thailand with 97,942 visitors, up 17 percent; and South Korea with 95,719 visitors, down 24.1 percent.

Most of the international tourists visited Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Angkor, coastal areas, and eco-tourism areas.
