Cambodia is going to start constructing a deep sea port in 2019 with an estimated cost of some US$200 million, said Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning.
The construction will help reducing the transportation cost from Cambodian products because currently big ships have to wait for Cambodian products in Ho Chi Minh or Singapore, he underlined while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of Sihanoukville Port Multipurpose Terminal, in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province.
According to the Cambodian Premier, the fund to construct this new deep sea port has been already approved by the Government of Japan.
The new container facility will be equipped with a 350-metre quay with a depth of 14.5 metres and will increase the port's current annual capacity of about 400,000 TEU to over 700,000 TEU.
