Construction of China-invested US$20-milion Cassava Processing Plant in Kratie Province Begins

A Chinese firm � Green Leader (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Green Leader Holdings Group � has organised a groundbreaking ceremony to build a US$20-million cassava processing plant in Kratie province, a northeastern province of Cambodia.

The event took place yesterday under the presidency of H.E. Yim Chhay Ly, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development; H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Mr. Zhang Sanhuo, Chairman of Green Leader Holdings Group.

Once completed, the plant, to be constructed on an area of 20 hectares in Snuol district, will be capable of processing 130,000 tons of cassava starch a year, pointed out a statement of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

According to the statement, there are some 675,000 hectares of cassava plantations in Cambodia, yielding about 14.8 million tons of cassava tubers last year.
