Commemoration of 68th Anniversary of Independence Day Wrapped Up

The celebration of the 68th Anniversary of Cambodia’s Independence Day was wrapped up this afternoon under the presidency of Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, Acting Head of State.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen; Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior; Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence; and other high-ranking officials participated in the ceremony with a crowd of civil servants and Phnom Penh residents.

Foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia were also present at the event.

On the occasion, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum put out the victory flame that His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, lighted since Nov. 9 at the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia gained full independence from France on Nov. 9, 1953 under the royal leadership of His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, the father of national independence, territorial integrity and national unity.
