Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khong reiterated the potential of Chinese tourism market, saying that Cambodia will do its best to attract at least 2 million Chinese visitors by 2020.
Addressing to the opening ceremony of the three-day Mekong-Lancang Training-Of-Trainers and Disseminative Workshop on ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standards in Siem Reap cultural province, H.E. Thong Khon quoted the World Tourism Organisation's report underlining that Chinese tourists account for 10 percent of the total international tourists.
More than 1.7 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia during the first quarter of 2018, of them over 500,000 are Chinese. The country is expected to attract more than 6 million international visitors by the end of this year, or 1.8 million Chinese tourists.
With this trend, next year Cambodia would welcome 2.4 million Chinese tourists, and the figure would rise to 2.6 million in 2020, i.e. beyond the set target.
