In Phnom Penh, some 4,000 members of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) gathered at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre under the presidency of CPP Vice President, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, to mark the launch of their campaign.
Seven political parties will compete in the forthcoming election for the 559 seats of capital and provincial councils, and the 3,555 seats of municipal, district and Khan councils.
The third Election of Capital, Provincial, Municipal, District and Khan Councils, a universal suffrage, will take place on May 26 in 228 polling stations across the nation, and only 11,572 commune/Sangkat councilors are eligible to vote.
According to the National Election Committee (NEC), this campaign will last until May 24. Each participating political party can hold parade or march only twice during the eight-day period.
Loudspeakers are banned from noon to 2:00 pm and near hospitals or schools and other educational establishments, underlined NEC, adding that the election campaign must end 24 hours before the polling day.
