Cambodia’s Rice Export Up Almost 22 Percent in First Five Months

Cambodia exported 283,675 tonnes of milled rice from January to May 2022, netting more than US$173.47 million.

The update was shared last weekend by the Cambodia Rice Federation, stressing that the total milled rice export increased nearly 22 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

Of the Cambodian milled rice exported through 53 companies, 64.10 percent were all kinds of fragrant rice, while white rice accounted for 33.12 percent, parboiled rice and organic rice for 1.42 percent each.

China remains the biggest market importing 149,447 tonnes or 52.68 percent, a year-on-year increase of 23.68 percent, followed by 23 European countries purchasing 88,167 tonnes or 31 percent, up 49.26 percent; 4 ASEAN member countries 256,91 tonnes or 9.06 percent, up 17.59 percent; while the export to other destinations (21 countries) reached 20,376 tonnes or 7.20 percent.

During the period, Cambodia also shipped 1,698,908 tonnes of paddy rice, valued at US$391.69 million.

In May alone, 62,537 tonnes of milled rice, a surge of 54.28 percent compared to May 2021, and 50,161 tonnes of paddy rice were exported.
