Cambodia is expecting another deep-water maritime port in Kampot, a southwestern province.
The construction of the port will take place through a joint venture of domestic company, Try Pheap Group and China's Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd.
An agreement between the two companies were signed here on April 24 under the witness of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection H.E. Mrs. Men Sam An and Mr. Chen Wu, Governor of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
With the capacity to handle sea freight up to 3,000 tons, this second deep-water port of Cambodia is projected to offer 500 jobs to the locals during its initial phase.
After three years when the construction is done, added the projection, additional 1,000 vacancies will be available.
The existence of the seaport will contribute to further promoting sea freight, especially between Cambodia and China.
