Cambodian workers abroad sent home US$2.8 billion as remittances last year, contributing to promote their family’s living standard.
The figures were shared by H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training during the annual meeting of the National Social Security Fund held here last Friday.
“The remittances have not only improved the livelihoods of their family members, but also contributed to boosting Cambodia’s economic growth,” H.E. Ith Samheng said.
As of 2021, there were some 1.3 million Cambodian workers working abroad, of them, 1.2 million in Thailand, 45,000 in South Korea, 23,000 in Malaysia, 11,000 in Japan, 800 in Singapore, 200 in China’s Hong Kong, and 43 in Saudi Arabia.
Cambodia has continued to strengthen cooperation with partner countries and other nations to find more employment opportunities for Cambodian workers, to protect their rights and interests, particularly to provide them with social protection.
