Cambodian PM Receives International Observers

AKP Phnom Penh, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here this morning at the Peace Palace a delegation of international observers led by Mr. Andres Pastrana, President of the Centrist Democrat International (CDI).

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, Mr. Andres Pastrana on behalf of the delegation thanked Cambodia for inviting them to observe the Commune/Sangkat Council Election to be held tomorrow.

Mr. Andres Pastrana wished that the election will be conducted smoothly in a free, fair and non-violent manner.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed warm welcome to the delegation and thanked them for coming to observe the democratic process in a country, which has turned from a nation previously known for war and genocide into a democratic nation through elections.

The Prime Minister also told them of the Commune/Sangkat Council Election in Cambodia which is a universal suffrage starting since 2002.

He added that the 14-day election campaign which ended yesterday was conducted smoothly without violence, both in words and gestures.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen laid stress on the successful COVID-19 vaccination campaign leading to the country’s full reopening as well as the local election’s organisation.

The delegation of international observers is composed of 11 teams from the Centrist Democrat International (CDI), Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI), International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and so on.

Cambodia is going to hold the 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election on Sunday, June 5, 2022. 17 registered political parties will compete for the 1,652 communes/Sangkat across the country.
